Don’t Cha Wish Your Pastor Was Hot Like Mine?

I just had to laugh when I first read this article in a link sent by a friend.  Nothing surprising about it, really, but worth a moment of levity, for sure.  Seems it’s causing a bigger stink than it really should be, as folks are discussing it in other places, too.
So, in the true spirit of exacerbating an already ridiculous “controversy” (which is one of my favorite pasttimes, I confess) I would here like to post pictures of some of the most wonderful pastors I know.
Be very careful . . . they are women.
The ever-stylish Rev. Rachel Cornwell, pastor of Woodside United Methodist Church.

All these fabulous women have acted as pastors to me at various points in my life and I know so many more gifted women in congregational leadership and ordained ministry.  If you want to participate with me in the outrage, feel free to post a tasteful . . . ahem . . . picture of your female pastor in the comments!

  1. Why does this have anything to do with Freedom of Speech? She was able to write, publish, and distribute the magazine. That’s where Freedom of Speech (or press) ends. The fact that her interpretation of the scripture is a minority interpritation will certainly turn some retailers off to selling her materials if they outwardly contradict their beliefs. The retailer also has rights and has publically made a ruling of doctrine that they will not condone nor promote females as pastors. What’s wrong with them upholding this ruling. She has several other outlets that will sell her materials. This is one retailer. It evidently comes down to money because fact is that Lifeway is the largest Christian Book Retail chain and she knows she will lose alot of money. If this was a smaller chain she probably wouldn’t have blinked. Kind of sad really. She knew before she published the magazine where Lifeway stands on that issue and she should have known that they have the right to remove it from their shelves.

  2. The irony of these Lifeway stores keeping the magazine behind the counter was absolutely *delicious*. Perhaps next time they should ask to have copies shipped in plain brown wrappers.

(Oh, and if you can riff on the Pussycat Dolls in another blog post title, I’ll buy you coffee and a muffin…)

  3. I’m a member at Calvary (Amy’s church), but I was previously a member at North Shore Baptist Church in Chicago. It has a husband/wife pastoral team of Carol McVetty and Doug Harris. They’ve been there for 10 years, are both wonderful pastors and I love them dearly. (And Amy, of course.)
